Abstract
Caring for a child with HIV or AIDS can be extremely difficult. Caregivers and their children have to cope with a mixture of medical and emotional challenges every day. This DVD shares the stories of three families coping with HIV/AIDS and the people who surround them. It gives concrete suggestions for caregivers of HIV+ children under the age of 14 about where to find information and support for: helping children adhere to and tolerate difficult medication regimens; coping with and treating mental health issues like anxiety, grief over the loss of family members, attachment and adjustment disorders; disclosing HIV status to the infected child, family, friends and community. This DVD also shows the benefits of caregiver support groups, individual counseling for caregivers and children and other mental health and support services.
