This audio self-study presents guidelines for developing a diagnostic protocol that includes representative speech sampling, independent and relational analysis procedures for segmental, phonotactic, and suprasegmental components of speech, and symptomatology to aid in differential diagnosis of children with severe speech impairment (with and without developmental apraxia of speech). Guidelines are also provided for selecting appropriate segmental, phonotactic, and suprasegmental goals, along with a review of principles and techniques of intervention. Attention is paid to issues that arise when clinicians assess and treat children being raised in a multilingual environment.
