Abstract
Melanie Marsh is an American living in London with her British husband, Stephen, and their two young children. The Marshes’ orderly home life is shattered when their son Daniel is given a diagnosis of autism. Resourceful and determined not to accept what others, including her husband, say is inevitable, Melanie finds an ally in the idealistic Andy, whose unorthodox ideas may just prove that Daniel is far more “normal” than anyone imagined. Daniel Isn’t Talking is a moving story of a family in crisis, told with warmth, compassion, and humor.

Abstract
Jan Maka was a child like any other, until his family's lives were turned upside down when it was discovered he had autism. What is it like to live with a child affected by this neurological disorder?
Through the voice of Jan's devoted mother and the comments of specialists, Anna Barczewska's touching short film introduces us to the demanding reality of autism, a condition characterized by a reduced ability to communicate with the outside world. Going beyond one family's story, A Child Unlike Any Other depicts the daily struggle of parents of autistic children and their efforts to obtain therapy. A poignant cry from the heart.

Abstract
At 18-months, Ashley didn't talk, survived on a diet of crunchy foods, and focused all her attention on Barney the Dinosaur. But she worked puzzles like a kindergartender and was computer savvy before she was two-years old. Ashley was diagnosed with autism, specifically an issue with auditory processing - she could hear, but she couldn't listen. A therapy (involving Mozart and the Tomatis Method) to retrain her ears to perceive sound better "awakened" Ashley: her brain's desire to communicate was kindled, fostering a connection with her body, her family, and the world around her.

Abstract
This book will be useful to parents and educators working with children and adults suffering from autistic spectrum disorders (ASD). Of the changes made to this edition, first and foremost is the terminology: ASD, which incorporates autism, Asperger's syndrome, and other pervasive developmental disorders into one diagnosis, is now an accepted umbrella term for those conditions. In a very readable format, Waltz covers the latest developments in medical and therapeutic interventions and environmental links, insurance, education, family issues, support, and resources for the English-speaking world. Throughout, she intersperses numerous personal accounts from interviews held with families, caretakers, and ASD patients. Those firsthand accounts allow the human side of the diagnosis to shine through and illustrate the wide variety of experiences of living with ASD.
