Abstract
Another Twinkle in the Eye is an essential guide for anyone contemplating another pregnancy after perinatal mental illness. The decision to bring a child into the world is rarely one that is taken lightly. When a previous pregnancy and early parenthood has resulted in poor maternal and/or paternal perinatal mental health, making a conscious decision to have another baby can be even more challenging.
This unique book provides facts, resources, and discussion points to support people in making informed and comfortable decisions. It is also an essential resource for health professionals who support or are involved in the decision-making process of couples planning another pregnancy.
The author combines personal experience with real-life stories from other parents. Also included are contributions from healthcare professionals. The book offers comprehensive coverage across five key areas: Reflection on the previous pregnancy, miscarriage or stillbirth, Decisions to be made when considering another pregnancy, Ways to plan for and to have a healthier experience, The role of healthcare professionals and facilities, and Self-help and complementary techniques for good mental health in the perinatal period.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract
"As parents, we worry about our children?about their physical health, performance at school, the types of friends they have, and, of course, their mental health. Every day seems to bring new and expanding issues and disorders and troubling statistics about the rise of mental illness in children and teens. It?s usually obvious what to do for physical injuries like broken bones, but when it comes to our children?s mental health, the answers are much less clear, and sometimes even contradictory.
"Pier Bryden and Peter Szatmari, top child and adolescent psychiatrists, are here to help. Using their combined six decades working with families and kids?and their own experiences as parents?they break down the stigma of mental health illness and walk parents through the warning signs, risk factors, prevention strategies, and the process of diagnosis and treatment for mental health challenges arising from: anxiety, substance use disorders, eating disorders, sleep disorders, depression, trauma, suicidal thoughts and behaviors, psychosis, ADHD, and autism.
"The most important thing to remember as a parent is that you and your child are not alone and there is a lot you can do to improve your child's mental health. The road ahead isn't always easy or straightforward, but start here to learn how to advocate for your child's well-being"--from the inside front cover.

Abstract

Abstract
