Les manifestations du phénomène d'addiction chez les adolescents sont devenues spectaculaires. L'ampleur du binge-drinking, le recours aux substances psychoactives (les drogues), etc., inquiètent la société, les professionnels de santé, les parents... voire les jeunes eux-mêmes.
Mais trop souvent l'analyse de ce phénomène reste simpliste, confond consommation et dépendance, et se limite aux chiffres plutôt qu'à leur sens. Une telle approche strictement factuelle n'offre guère d'explication à cette tendance et contribue à opposer trop volontiers répression, éducation et soin.
Ce livre se situe dans une toute autre perspective. Les auteurs, avec la diversité disciplinaire qui les caractérise, cherchent non seulement à mieux définir les divers modes d'addiction (incluant les troubles alimentaires et même la passion) et leurs niveaux de gravité, mais aussi à mieux les comprendre et à les mettre en perspective pour en saisir le sens. En un mot : cet ouvrage propose une approche scientifique de l'addiction, c'est-à-dire rigoureuse, objective et intelligente sans être jargonnante ni pontifiante.
Il fait état des recherches les plus récentes et propose de situer l'addiction dans un contexte dynamique. En outre, il prépare l'avenir de la recherche dans ce domaine, en posant des questions parfois dérangeantes.
Il faut avoir lu ce livre si l'on veut comprendre ce phénomène et surtout avant de mettre en place des actions de prévention à l'intention des adolescents.
